Whereas, eight countries in the Indian Ocean region started a system of naming cyclonic storms from the year 2004 on the initiative of India. In this, the cyclone is named after choosing one of the names suggested by the member countries. These countries include India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Oman and Thailand.

Low pressure area in Bay of Bengal from May 22

Talking about cyclone fame, the Indian Meteorological Department said on Thursday that there is a possibility of a low pressure area on May 22 in the north Andaman sea and the eastern part of the Bay of Bengal. It has been predicted to turn into a cyclonic storm by 24 May. This cyclone has been named ‘Yash’. The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted the cyclonic storm to reach the coastal areas of West Bengal in addition to Odisha by May 26.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the ‘Yash’ cyclone, which is forming in the Bay of Bengal, is expected to cause light to moderate rains in many areas of Andaman and Nicobar on May 22 and 23. Light to moderate rain has also been forecast in most areas of West Bengal and Odisha from the evening of 25 May. The intensity of Cyclone Yash will increase with the passing of the day. It is believed that its effect can be seen from Assam, Meghalaya to Bihar and Jharkhand.
