Tarun Tejpal case: Tarun Tejpal acquitted of all allegations of sexual harassment- Tarun Tejpal, former editor-in-chief of news magazine Tehelka, has been acquitted of all allegations of sexual harassment. The fast track court of Goa gave a big relief to Tarun Tejpal while delivering the verdict.

The former editor-in-chief of Tehelka was accused of sexually assaulting a female colleague inside a lift in a luxury hotel in Goa in 2013.

The Additional Sessions Court has acquitted Tehelka founder Tarun Tejpal in an alleged sexual harassment case from a colleague in a Goa hotel. After the court acquitted Tarun Tejpal said that in November 2013 he was implicated in a false case of sexual harassment by a female colleague and today the trial court of the Additional Sessions Judge in Goa acquitted me.

This case saw many twists last year.

7-8 November 2013 – A woman accused Tarun Tejpal of sexual harassment during an event organized by Tehelka at a hotel in North Goa.

November 22, 2013 – Goa police register an FIR against Tarun Tejpal, taking cognizance of the case. Tejpal returned to Goa on 28 November and was arrested on 30 November after the interim bail plea was rejected.

May 19, 2014 – Tejpal came out on interim bail to attend his mother’s funeral and since then he was out. He was granted bail in July 2014.

In September 2017- the Mapusa court framed charges against Tejpal in a harassment case with a junior colleague. Tejpal declared himself innocent and hearing of the case began.

October 21, 2019- The cross-examination in the case began with the victim. Earlier, Tejpal had challenged the charges set by the Additional District and Sessions Court through a criminal revision application.

On 20 December 2019 – the Bombay High Court bench in Goa dismissed Tejpal’s petition.

The verdict was to be pronounced in this case first on 27 April and then on 19 May but due to Corona epidemic, the date of judgment was further extended to 21 May.

Tejpal has IPC sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 342 (wrongful restraint), 354 (torture with intent to breach dignity), 354-A (sexual harassment), 354B (assault or criminal form of woman The use of force), 376 (2) (F) (rape by a woman in a high position) and 376 (2) (K) (rape by a person in a high position).
