Rakesh Asthana’s leave after Alok Verma: CBI Dispute
Due to the mutual controversy over the top officials of the CBI, the Central Government is going to completely eliminate the pull-out of the investigation agency within months. After the removal of director Alok Verma at the center of the dispute, Additional Director Rakesh Asthana, deployed as the number two in the CBI, was also removed from the investigating agency on Thursday. The root of the entire controversy was Alok Verma and Rakesh Asthana who were constantly accusing each other of corruption.
The appointment committee of the Cabinet has issued its order in this regard on Thursday evening. Apart from Rakesh Asthana, three more CBI officials – Joint Director Arun Kumar Sharma, DIG Manish Kumar Sinha, SP Jayant J. Naiknavre has also been removed from the investigating agency prematurely.
It is known that the High Power Committee, chaired by PM Modi, has called a meeting on 24th January to seek the new CBI Director. The government intends that with the deployment of the new director, the investigation agency’s dispute should be completely abolished. However, some issues related to it are still in the court whose decisions can affect this process.
Let me tell you that a high-level selection committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken a big decision to remove the CBI director Alok Verma a few days back. Other members of the committee included Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge and Justice AK Sikri. This decision was taken after the opposition of Kharge, with a majority of 2-1.
Earlier, after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), both senior officers of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had made serious allegations against each other, the government had sent them both on leave. After that, the developments change rapidly. Supreme Court recently restored Alok Verma to his post, but only after one day the High Committee removed Verma from the post and transferred him to the Fire Services Department. For the first time in the history of CBI, this kind of action has been taken against the agency chief. One day after the transfer, Alok Verma sent the resignation to the government. Actually, while transferring Verma, he was made the director of Fire Services but he resigned while refusing to take charge.
Asthana does not get relief from HC, Rakesh Asthana’s leave after Alok Verma
On January 11, the Delhi High Court had refused to cancel the FIR lodged against the CBI’s Special Director Rakesh Asthana on the allegations of bribe and fixed a 10-week deadline for completing the investigation. Along with this, the court banned its interim order, in which he ordered the operation of Asthana not to carry out criminal proceedings. This means that there is no restriction on his arrest.
