Delhi demanded four times the oxygen required : Supreme Court panel- The Supreme Court’s oxygen audit team has made such a sensational claim that Delhi’s Arvind Kejriwal has stood in the dock. The committee constituted by the Supreme Court has said that during the second wave of the Kovid-19 epidemic, when there was an outcry for oxygen across the country, the Delhi government had demanded four times the oxygen requirement. The committee told the Supreme Court that 12 states would have faced oxygen crisis due to the excessive supply of oxygen to the Delhi government.

In this report submitted to the Supreme Court, the audit team said, “A huge discrepancy has been detected. According to the formula fixed on the basis of bed capacity, Delhi needed 289 metric tonnes of oxygen, but the Delhi government has estimated the consumption of 1,140 metric tonnes of oxygen. claimed which is almost four times the requirement.” Keep in mind that Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had said on May 13 that now Delhi has extra oxygen which can be given to other states. He had told that the Delhi government has written a letter to the Center saying that it has extra oxygen and it can be given to other states also.

PESO made a shocking revelation
The Petroleum and Oxygen Safety Organization (PESO) told a Supreme Court-constituted team that the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCTD) had excess oxygen which affected the supply of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) to other states. He said that if Delhi’s demand had been met, there would have been an oxygen crisis at the national level.
Supreme Court had reprimanded
It should be noted that a Supreme Court bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud on May 5 had strongly reprimanded the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of Delhi for creating hue and cry over the oxygen crisis. Also, he had ordered the central government to supply 700 metric tonnes of oxygen to Delhi. Then Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court that according to the formula, Delhi needs only 414 metric tonnes of oxygen.
SC had ordered an inquiry by giving the example of Mumbai
The Supreme Court then ordered Delhi to supply 700 metric tonnes of oxygen, but together formed a team under the chairmanship of AIIMS director Randeep Guleria. The Supreme Court asked this team to find out that only 275 metric tonnes of oxygen was needed in Mumbai when the second wave of Kovid epidemic was at its peak. At that time there were 95 thousand Kovid patients in Mumbai. In such a situation, how did Delhi need 900 metric tonnes of oxygen for 95 thousand patients in peak time.
