Assam Mizoram Clash: Tension on Assam-Mizoram border after violence- two companies deployed- Violence broke out on Monday over the Assam-Mizoram border dispute, in which six Assam Police personnel were killed. After this incident, a war of words has started between the Chief Ministers of both the states. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma met the injured jawans, as well as instructed them to provide better treatment. On the other hand, Mizoram CM Zoramthanga alleged that there was firing and grenades were thrown from the Assam side.
Update @ 12.28 PM- Two companies of CRPF deployed at the disputed site
The CRPF has deployed two companies at the Lailapur-Vairengte disputed site between Assam and Mizoram. 119 battalion of CRPF has been deployed in Assam and 225 battalions in Mizoram. According to media reports, CRPF companies from these 2 different battalions were already deployed in Assam and Mizoram but now their activism has been increased.
Update @11.56AM- TMC MP targets BJP
Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee has hit out at the BJP over the bloody clashes in Assam and Mizoram, saying such incidents continuously under the watch of the BJP have invited the death of democracy in India. Update @11.15 AM- Congress wrote a letter to Shah demanding an investigation
Gaurav Gogoi, Deputy Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha: I have given Adjournment Motion Notice. Also, a separate letter has been written to Home Minister Amit Shah demanding an inquiry.
Update @11AM- Congress formed 7 member team
Assam has constituted a 7-member committee to assess the Assam-Mizoram border dispute by Congress. This team will go to Cachar and other areas where violence broke out on Monday. Assam Congress president Bhupen Bora will lead the committee.
Update @ 10.49 – The issue of bloody conflict between Assam and Mizoram will be raised in the Parliament.
The issue of Assam-Mizoram will be raised during the monsoon session of Parliament today. Congress Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi in Lok Sabha gave Adjournment Motion Notice to discuss the Assam-Mizoram border conflict. Gaurav Gogoi said, ‘Some media reports said that LMG was used. Are we in our country or on the borders of the country? We demand an inquiry into the incident.
Update @ 10.41- Himanta pays tribute to the martyred soldiers
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma paid homage to the jawans killed in the bloody clash with the neighbouring state and bowed to the mortal remains. Directed the doctors to ensure the best treatment for them. Along with this, the seriously injured soldiers were asked to be sent for high-level treatment through air ambulance.
Update @ 10 AM – Assam started firing, threw grenades: Zoramthanga
Mizoram CM Zoramthanga alleged, “Around 200 Assam policemen crossed the border and trampled the CRPF post on the Mizoram side. The firing started from the Assam side. They threw grenades and used machine guns.
Update @ 9 AM- Assam minister compares Jallianwala incident
Assam minister Parimal Suklabaidya said, ‘6 of our jawans were killed in the border dispute. There was no firing from the Assam side. Our men were calm. The firing took place from the Mizoram side, just like the British police did in Jallianwala Bagh. Earlier, the CM of Assam and the CM of Mizoram are blaming each other’s police.
Update @ 8.30 AM – Himanta met the injured soldiers
CM Himanta Biswa Sharma met the police personnel who were injured in the riot at Silchar Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday morning and gave their condition. The Assam government claims that six of its jawans were killed while over 50 were injured in their attack.
CM of both the states clashed on Twitter
After the violence on the Assam-Mizoram border, there was a war on Twitter between the Chief Ministers of both states. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma posted a video alleging that the miscreants and jawans of Mizoram celebrated after the death of Assam policemen.
Shah asked to find a solution in a friendly manner
The CMs of both the states appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene in the matter. Late in the night, Shah also spoke to both of them and asked them to ensure peace in the disputed border area and find an amicable solution.
