On Wednesday, Google launches free app ‘Bolo’ to help the primary-grade students improve their Hindi and English learning skills. The purpose of the app is to reduce the learning gap in education and is available on Google play store in India. According to Nitin Kashyap, Product Manager of Google India, “Bolo is designed as a reading-tutor app that helps students improve their reading – anytime, anywhere. Speak with, we want to encourage and engage children so that their love for reading grows and it becomes a daily habit”.

Zohair Hyder, head of engineering for speaking, said, “We have our own personal experience and know that reading with a person giving 1: 1 feedback helps in reading skills. Many children do not particularly support those people in rural India. Speak through, we wanted to bring a similar experience for anyone who read it through our smartphone.
The app uses text for Google’s speech recognition and speech technology. It comes with a fun and useful reading friend, “Diya”, which encourages, helps, assists and corrects the child because he reads aloud. Google said that it’s Pilot Project has given very encouraging results with ‘O Speech’. With the help of ASER Center, he used to experiment with more than 900 children in 200 villages of Uttar Pradesh. According to Google, this app helps children to read themselves, chooses from different types of fascinating stories, as they learn, enjoy, improve their ability to read at their pace, to English Better understand and read without distracting. It further said that the app takes into account the safety and security of children because all personal information is always with the device.
Last but not least, the app works even when it’s offline and is completely free. Google said that in this way children can continue to learn constantly without distracting.
