The families also gave money to some men who married their girls. Girls were married to men who were qualified to leave Kabul. The shocking measures taken by Afghans, especially among women, paint a picture of extreme desperation. Women here fear the extreme level of persecution at the hands of the Taliban.
The CNN report said that such exit measures from Afghanistan have raised alarm bells by US officials in the United Arab Emirates. US diplomats are also expected to help the UAE identify cases where Afghan women are at risk of human trafficking. The report said that the US State Department has indicated that it will coordinate with the Department of Homeland Security and Defense on this.
US troops made their final rescue from Afghanistan on the night of August 30, marking the end of 20 years of the Afghan war that ended the previous Taliban regime. The Taliban, which has declared victory since the US exit, has reminded the then Taliban regime that women lacked basic human rights.
