Ranveer Singh’s recent advertisement for a sexual wellness brand featuring adult star Johnny Sins has ignited a firestorm on the internet. The commercial, which humorously parodied the over-the-top drama often seen in Hindi television’s saas-bahu serials, has drawn mixed reactions. One notable critic of the ad is Rashami Desai, a seasoned actress with a strong background in the television industry.
Taking to Instagram stories, Rashami Desai expressed her disappointment with the ad, particularly highlighting its portrayal of the television industry. She began by reflecting on her own journey, starting from regional films and transitioning into television. Desai emphasized the significance of television, often referred to as the “small screen,” as a platform where diverse content, including news, cricket, and Bollywood films, is consumed by the masses.
Desai conveyed her dismay at how the advertisement seemed to belittle the television industry and those who work within it. She lamented the perception that actors from television are treated as lesser than their counterparts in the film industry, despite their hard work and dedication. The actress articulated her belief that the struggles and aspirations of television actors are often overlooked, with the big screen being deemed as the ultimate goal.
The heart of Desai’s critique lies in the disparity between the portrayal of reality on television shows versus the perceived glamorization of reality on the big screen. She argued that while television endeavors to showcase culture and love to its audience, advertisements like this one deliver a harsh reality check, potentially undermining the respectability of the television industry.
Desai concluded her statement by expressing her hope that others would understand the depth of her emotion and the importance of acknowledging the contributions of the television industry. Her words serve as a reminder of the value and dignity inherent in the work of television actors, urging for greater recognition and respect within the entertainment landscape.

The ad, featuring Johnny Sins alongside Singh, was crafted as a playful spoof of TV culture, quickly becoming a sensation on the internet. Slamming Ranveer Singh’s portrayal of the TV industry in the ad, Rashami had written on Instagram, “I’ve started my work from a regional film industry. And then started working in the television industry. People call it a small screen. Where normal people watch the news, cricket, all the Bollywood films also, and much more. After watching this reel, which is highly unexpected, I felt it was a humiliation to all the TV industry and people who work in television. Because we (are) always made feel smaller. Actors really wanna work on the big screen too, this is how exactly we get treated. Everyone is working hard. But I’m sorry, TV show pe yeh sab nahi dikhate. This all happens on the big screen. And nothing wrong in showing some reality but this is a reality check for all the TV industry coz I feel it’s a slap. Maybe I am overreacting. But we show culture and love to our audience. And I am hurt coz I’ve had a respectful journey in the TV industry. Hope you all will understand the emotion.
In a statement, he conveyed his earnest commitment, stating, “I am here with genuine intent to leverage my influence for raising awareness and effecting positive change. The Bold Care campaign transcends mere discussion; it embodies a mission to which I am profoundly connected. My goal is to revolutionize how we approach men’s sexual health, striving for practical solutions that impact millions of lives nationwide.”
