Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Tuesday sought an appointment with Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav to discuss measures to control pollution in the capital. Kejriwal had said on Monday that he would meet the Union environment minister along with the audit report of Pusa bio-decomposer and urge him to direct the states around Delhi to distribute it free of cost among farmers. Bio-decomposer is a kind of liquid that can convert straw into compost in 15-20 days. He had said that the use of Pusa Bio-Decomposer has been found to be very effective in an audit conducted by a central agency. The Delhi government used the liquid prepared by scientists of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute here last year.
Former Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar had said last year that Pusa bio-decomposer would be used in some areas of Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh and if the technology was successful, it would be expanded to more areas.

Gopal Rai said that the three municipal corporations, Delhi Cantonment Board, NDMC, DDA, and all other government construction agencies have to prepare an action plan to control the dust emissions. He said that these departments have also been asked to sensitize their officers at the ground level. He said that the municipal corporations have been asked to prepare an action plan to control the burning of garbage and monitor the hotspots of pollution. Apart from this, the transport department has been asked to popularize the electric vehicle policy. The traffic police will prepare a plan to deal with the congestion on the roads. The Environment Department will establish communication channels with neighboring states and the Center for coordination on pollution-related matters.
A review meeting was attended by officials from Municipal Corporations, Delhi Pollution Control Committee, Environment Department, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi Jal Board, Delhi Traffic Police, Public Works Department, Transport Department, National Highways Authority of India, and Central Public Works Department. Rai said that these departments have been asked to prepare their action plan on the basis of which the ‘Winter Action Plan’ of the capital would be prepared.
