Ruckus in Bengal Assembly: Governor could not read the speech due to the uproar of the MLAs- The ruckus that started after the assembly elections in West Bengal has reached inside the assembly. The first day of the budget session of the state assembly was marred by uproar by legislators. The situation got so bad that Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar went back without reading his address. The ruckus increased so much that the assembly was adjourned within 5 minutes.
The budget session in any assembly begins with the address of the governor. It contains the details of the working of the government. Along with this, information about important schemes of the government is also given. Since the government of the state runs in the name of the governor, the address prepared by the government is read out by the governor in the house.
May 10: Governor angry over violence during oath
In Bengal, 43 ministers of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took oath on 10 May. During this too Dhankhar had expressed displeasure over the Bengal violence. He said that there was no responsibility in the state government to end the violence. Circumstances show that the government also wanted the same. The governor said that the constitution has ended in Bengal. There are reports of violence in the night and all is said to be fine in the morning.
Governor Dhankhar had earlier raised the issue of Bengal violence on the day of Mamata’s swearing-in on May 5. Also appealed to the CM to take immediate steps to improve the situation. Mamta had said that the new system would be implemented. After 5 days in the swearing-in of the ministers, the Governor once again raised the issue of violence, but this time in a more vehement manner than before.
May 13: Dhankhar went on a tour of the violence-hit areas
Dhankhar visited Cooch Behar to meet people affected by the post-poll violence. His convoy was shown black flags by the crowd in Sitalkuchi area, while slogans were raised to go back to Dinhata. During the election in Seetalkuchi, 4 people were killed in firing by the central security forces. After this, the Governor reprimanded the police officers and raised questions on the condition of law and order in the state.
State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has objected to the Governor’s announcement to meet the victims. In a letter to the governor, the CM said that the governor’s secretary decides the tour of the districts after the orders of the state government. The visit of the governor is decided after discussion with the district and state government officials. The governor is going against protocol.
June 28: Mamta calls Governor corrupt, Dhankhar denies
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee made a big allegation on the state governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on 28 June. He said that Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar is a corrupt person. His name was in the chargesheet of the Hawala Jain case of 1996. I also wrote letters thrice to remove them.
Governor Dhankhar replied shortly after Mamta’s allegations. He said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee publicly made some serious allegations in the press conference. This is very unfortunate. I didn’t expect them to give false information to create sensation. My name is not mentioned in any charge sheet. There is no such document. This is wrong information. I have not taken a stay in the hawala charge sheet from any court as there was no such charge sheet.
