AIIMS director Randeep Guleria condemns indefinite strike of 5000 nursing staff as ‘Inappropriate and unfortunate’

All India Institute of Medical Sciences AIIMS Nurses Union launched an indefinite strike from Monday over their unheeded pending demands, including the Sixth Central Pay Commission and against contractual appointments of nursing officers. On Monday afternoon at the premier hospital AIIMS, New Delhi. Around 5,000 nurses launched a dubious strike hindering patient care services. Earlier the strike was scheduled to be launched from December 16.

AIIMS director Randeep Guleria put forward an emotional video message condemning the strike as ‘inappropriate and unfortunate’ addressing to the union president Harsh Kajla and more than 5,000 nursing staff and urged all of them to get back to their work and help patients convalesce during pandemic.

He also added, “I urge to all the nurses and nursing officers to end the strike, and stop make us feel embarrassed about the nobility we have”. Guleria uttered all the 23 demands put by the nurses union has been acknowledged by AIIMS administration and government of India. Furthermore he added more to his statement that as per the sixth central pay commission (CPC) one of the demands is basically an ‘Anomalous perception’ in the fixation of the inceptive pay.

The AIIMS director stated that numerous conferences have been held with not only the nurses union but by the representatives of the economic department adviser in the Ministry of Health, also the person who outlined the 6th CPC was also attending the meeting. “The interpretation was not correct… the nurses’ union was demanding for a hike in their salary, that the government will look sympathetically into the matter”.

Guleria again mentioned in his message that “Whatever issues you are facing at this point of time we will try to resolve harmoniously and sympathetically to your demands. But at this moment of hardship please try to cooperate with us and resume to your respective duties”.
